afterhours Community Guidelines (incl. POSH)
afterhours exists so people who work near each other can show interest safely and privately. That only works if everyone plays fair.
1. Keep it kind
- No sexual remarks, pressure or explicit content unless both of you clearly want it, and never in a first message.
- "No", silence and unmatching are all answers. Don't contact them again, on afterhours or anywhere else.
- No hate, bullying or threats. No mocking anyone's gender, caste, religion, body, sexuality or disability.
2. Never your reporting line
- Don't Spark your manager, your manager's manager, or anyone who reports to you, directly or indirectly. Power differences make consent complicated, and it's against the promise you made when you joined.
- If you're Sparked or matched by someone in your reporting line, report it. We'll end the match, and nobody will be told why.
3. What happens here stays here
- Don't screenshot, record or share anything from afterhours: profiles, chats, notes or Spark activity.
- Don't use anything you learn here at work. That includes gossip, hints and changing how you treat someone.
- Don't try to find out who's on afterhours. That includes test Sparks, comparing notes with colleagues and fake accounts.
4. Be real
- Use your own LinkedIn account, your real workplace and a recent photo of you alone, with your face clearly visible.
- No photos of other people, children, celebrities, nudity, contact details or social handles.
- One account per person. No impersonation.
5. No business
- No selling, promotion, recruiting, surveys, crypto, or asking for money or gifts.
- If anyone asks you for money, report them.
6. Stay safe
- Meet first in a public place, tell a friend, and get there and back by yourself.
- Keep conversations on afterhours until you trust the person.
- Verification confirms someone is a real person at the workplace they claim. It is not a background check.
7. Reporting
- Tap ⋯ → Report in a chat. Choose from: harassment, fake or misleading photos, in my reporting line, inappropriate content, other.
- Reporting blocks them immediately, hides their messages from you, and pauses their matching while a moderator reviews it.
- We never tell the other person who reported them.
- In an emergency, call 112. For harassment at work, contact your company's Internal Committee (ICC) under the POSH Act, 2013. We'll show you how.
8. What we do
| Severity | Examples | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Minor | Contact details in a photo | Content removed, warning |
| Serious | Unwanted sexual messages, repeated contact after "no" | Suspension or ban |
| Severe | Threats, explicit content without consent, sparking a minor, sharing screenshots | Permanent ban; we notify authorities where the law requires |
Appeals: email grievance@tryafterhours.app within 30 days. A different moderator will look at it again.
